Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) provincial chairpersons have thrown their weight behind the Christopher Mutsvangwa-led executive.
At a meeting in Harare, the veterans of the liberation struggle from the country’s 10 provinces, called for a special general meeting to deliberate on the recent developments, which saw the booting out of the Mutsvangwa-led executive through a vote of no confidence.
Mutsvangwa was booted out on Friday together with his wife, Monica Mutsvangwa, ZNLWVA Vice Chairman Headman Moyo and Secretary General Victor Matemadanda.
They have since been replaced by Mandi Chimene as Chairperson, George Mafa as Vice Chairman, and Michael Mapfumo as the new Secretary General, on an interim basis.
However, war veterans chairpersons from the country’s 10 provinces are against the move and they argue that the association’s constitution has no provision of a vote of no confidence.
Matemadanda said the disharmony in the association is meant to weaken the obtaining centre of power by creating divisions.
Mutsvangwa added that the special congress dates will be announced in consultations with the patron, President Robert Mugabe.
“At a time when I am under threat from many corners, you have come in full force behind me, you have shamed them,” said Mutsvangwa.
The meeting was attended by national executive members of the association, members of the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association and Children of the War Veterans Association.-State Media

  3. AND I QUOTE FROM THAT MEETING: “Pasi neG40”. …”there was brutal and inhuman treatment of citizens by local authorities at the behest of Minister of Local Government Saviour Kasukuwere”….”the liberation struggle is now being rubbished….”if you burn an army uniform you risk being charged with treason”…. “A soldier is a symbol of the State. But now the military has been made child’s play at rallies”….”Musoja anotaurwa parally. Musoja anotongwa ne Defence Forces Act”…..“Chii chatakanyanya kutadza? Kunzi urimuwar vet watova benzi pavanhu. Hint: Saviour said “lets fight with bare hands”.

  5. May i commend Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) for being resolute in defending the integrity of journalists in Zimbabwe. You have assisted in various ways to foster freedom in reporting thereby creating balance and fairness. if one person thinks private media is doing de-service the that person is in fact a de-service to the people. if accessibility to news platforms remains unreachable journalists will continue hunting to give credible unrefined news to the people. I implore the minister responsible for broadcasting to emulate South Africa not as epitome of democracy especially the state of address by Mr Zuma on 12 February 2016, the Africans saw the proceedings not from one source. i dream of Zimbabwe that respects the integrity of journos.

  7. War Vets like Chris Mutsvangwa, Chinos, Jabulani Sibanda, etc. have sold out their souls to the devil in that they have become the tyrannical regime’s storm troopers in helping Mugabe impose his no-regime-change agenda. One hopes that the events of the last two years have brought some of the war vet to their senses. War vet are supposed to have fought the war to liberate the people and not for them to be the new prison guards of the new oppressors!
People like Chris Mutsvangwa must throw out their usual war vet rhetoric claiming they are extra special. Mugabe encouraged it to suit his selfish political ends and idiots like Mutsvangwa took it up not knowing Mugabe was using them.
War vet must now decide either to be with the people or to be with the tyrannical politicians; either run with the hare or hunt with the hounds; they cannot do both!
