Staff Reporter | Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri , has fired the Bulawayo Provincial Police Officer Commanding, Assistant commissioner Steven Mutamba, for failing to remit funds raised from roadblocks.
Mutamba has been transferred to the ZRP Criminal Investigations Department headquarters in Harare where he will not be dealing with any cash.
He has since been replaced by one, Assistant Commissioner Gora, on an acting capacity until a substantive office bearer is appointed.
“It is believed that Police General Headquarters decided to transfer him because Bulawayo of late has not been remitting retention fund like other provinces. Assistant commissioner Mutamba has been urging his junior officers not to provoke riots but demanding spot fines from motorists,” ZimEye.com learnt from sources at ZRP Police General Headquarters in Harare.
“Recently, assistant commissioner Mutamba was at loggerheads with police general headquarters over his failure to meet retention targets,” they said.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is mounting roadblocks everywhere in the country’s highways and streets in towns and cities where they are demanding spot fines from motorists for silly offences like failing to carry a spare wheel when driving.
The notorious police have also gone to the extent of impounding vehicles from their owners who would have failed to raise the spot fines.
The fines collected from the angry motorists is however not remitted to the Treasury but is rather sent to the Police General Headquarters for use by Chihuri.

  1. Zim Eye manyanya kunyepa. Mutamba has not been transferred, he is still in charge at Byo Province. Ndiri hama yavo ende futi havasi kufeyewa whatsoever. His office does not have anything to do with spot fines and the allegations that he has been transferred is hogwash. Did you verify your story with police authorities kana kumbovafonera ivo. Ndo journalism yakapusa yamavakuita iyi.

  2. Do these words “transferring” and “firing” mean the same? The heading doesn’t have any relationship with this story.
