Residents demonstrating against Chombo and Chihuri incompetency

Residents in Gweru have petitioned the Home Affairs Minister, Ignatius Chombo and Police Chief Augustine Chihuri, for failing to properly execute police duties.
Over 300 residents stormed Nehanda Police station on Friday and demanded for an explanation over the missing of four-year-old Blessed Muringo, last month whose remains were later discovered outside Mkoba 20 in Gweru.
The media reports that Blessed went missing on June 12 after his mother had left him alone at their family home in Mkoba 15, rushing for a church service.
Results of DNA tests done on a body found in a state of decomposition in a bushy area outside Mkoba 20 last week confirmed that they were Blessed’s remains.
No arrests have been made so far.
The residents accused the police of being indifferent in the manner they were handling investigations and only dispersed after the intervention of MDC-T Mkoba MP, Amos Chibaya, who promised to engage the officer commanding Gweru district over the matter.
“We, the Mkoba North community, are not happy with Nehanda Police Station’s actions and investigations in the above matter,” read part of the petition signed by more than 300 residents.
“Blessed Muringo disappeared from home on June 12, 2016, but to date no arrests have been made. We, therefore, demand a full inquiry into the issue and would like to see a thorough investigation done. We demand police efficiency in dealing with issues affecting the community, we, therefore, demand answers in the way the investigations are being handled.”
