By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation(CIO) have taken over the Great Zimbabwe road rehabilitation exercise under the pretext of a bid to speed up the process ahead of President Robert Mugabe’s birthday bash.
Mugabe, who turns 92 in February is expected to attend the birthday bash scheduled for Great Zimbabwe monuments and it has emerged the state security agents are unhappy with the snail slow pace at which the Nemanwa Rural District Council is operating in the road rehabilitation exercise.
ZimEye.com is reliably informed CIO operatives have decided to commandeer the council employees to speed up the process ahead of the nonagenarian’s visit.
The bash is expected to chew up to $ 800 000 at a time the nation is facing critical food shortages.Masvingo is one of the provinces hard hit by severe drought-ironically Mugabe chose to celebrate his birthday in the drought-hit province.Only a stone’s throw from the monuments are the Nemanwa villages where hundreds of villagers are expected to watch as Mugabe and his cronies enjoy themselves at the massive bash. “We are working round the clock and there is no rest.
We are taking orders from CIO bosses who have instructed us to make sure the Great Zimbabwe road is completely refurbished by early february and the situation is tense because we are working under surveillance. The road has no markings and also there are potholes on it so we have been instructed to make sure the exercise is complete by early February. We are being supervised by state security agents.Infact the CIO operatives are now in charge of the exercise.
They have warned of dire implications if we fail to meet the deadline ,” said a council employee who chose to remain anonymous.
The country’s roads are in an atrocious state and the increase in road carnage has been attributed to the poor state of the roads.Council sources said state security agents ordered the Nemanwa Rural District Council to suspend all activities to concentrate on preparations for Mugabe’s birthday bash. Sources at Nemanwa Rural District Council also said the food and drought relief funds have also been channelled towards Mugabe’s birthday bash. Commenting on the development, Sukoluhle Sibanda said, “Mugabe’s banquet bash will be held in the drought stricken Masvingo province as the country faces food shortages, and at the time when he is simultaneously squandering money of such proportions. This is another demonstration by ZANU PF leaders that they are not concerned about the citizens’ welfare but their own selfish needs and survival. They are only keen on getting protection from their ruthless and manipulating leader who wants to die in power.”
