FORMER Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor Gideon Gono has had his property attached by the Messenger of Court over $22 000 owed to his former finance manager identified as James Gondodza.
Gondodza, who worked at Gono’s Omega Abattoirs, claims the ex-RBZ boss owed him salaries from January 2013 to October 2014. The attachment of the property followed the registration of an arbitral award at the High Court in the sum of $22 060 by Gondodza after the arbitration tribunal presided over by Honourable Masinire, ruled in his favour. The attached property included a Toyota Hilux with no wheels, a CAM truck with no wheels and 1 500 asbestos sheets.
In his statement of claim, Gondodza, through his lawyer Kumbirai Masasire, had accused Gono’s firm of committing unfair labour practice.
“The claim against the respondent (Omega Abattoirs) is salaries due to claimant (Gondodza) from January 2013 to date (October 2014). The respondent has committed unfair labour practice by refusing to pay claimant his salaries due to him,” Masasire said.
“The respondent is refusing, neglecting or reluctant to pay the claimant. There is no basis whatsoever for the respondent to refuse to pay claimant once the services has been rendered. Thus respondent is guilty of unfair labour practice.”
Gondodza claimed that Gono’s firm had failed to respect the sanctity and sacredness of his right to remuneration.-Newsday
