By Tinoonga Mawere, Gutu|CIO agents ordered School Bus Drivers to ferry Zanu PF to and from Grace Mugabe’s rally at Mushayavanhu High School yesterday.
School bus drivers were left stranded having travelled long distances to the venue.
The bus drivers told ZimEye.com yesterday they were grounded at the venue hoping to be given fuel coupons as reimbursement for the expenses incurred but they were rudely told by state agents to wait for further consultations. Some of the schools that own the buses are Dewure, Gutu High Alheit, Mupandawana, Mukaro Mission and Mutero.
Mrs Mugabe’s rallies have chewed up thousands of dollars at a time the country ‘s economy is crumbling with each passing day. Such schools are also operating on stringent budgets due to the harsh economic conditions. One school bus driver yesterday said around 7pm they were still waiting for the fuel coupons.
“We are still waiting for the coupons and we are now confused. We were instructed to ferry Zanu PF supporters to and from the rally but now we are still waiting for the coupons. We used school resources to transport the Zanu PF supporters and we are now fearing for the worst,”said a bus driver who spoke on condition of anonymity.
While everything at the rally appeared to be glamorous, it has emerged Mrs Mugabe’s rally has left several institutions battling with arrears as a result of costs incurred before and during the rally. It has also been reported Gutu Central Constituency MP Lovemore Matuke who is a businessman, went into overdrive and donated several crates of soft drinks and beer in a bid to please Mrs Mugabe.
The First Lady has been accused of being insenstive to the plight of thousands of suffering Zimbabweans and she has also been lambasted for her penchant for expensive shopping.
