The death toll from First Lady Grace Mugabe’s rallies in right weeks has risen to (11) eleven people.
The unreported figure comes as the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), and the State Media suppressed the publishing of the shocking statistics.
Sources told ZimEye.com this week there was a deadly stampede at Grace’s rally in Mberengwa that left an additional five people dead while (50) others were left severely injured. That number is in addition to (6) six other fatalities, (3) three at Chimanimani on the 8th October, and an additional 3) three at Gutu, Masvingo on Friday last week.
In the Gutu case, police officers were seen in public ordering people to ensure no public or media report was made.” The people were just given village burials and they were as a consequence all secret burials and no single post mortem was carried out”, a source told ZimEye.com.
Of the five killed at Mberengwa, one (1) was a school going child and four (4) were adults.
Grace Mugabe is also accused of deliberately causing the deaths by making exalted claims of philanthropy raising people’s emotions and hopes all to their detriment. A source in the newsroom analysed saying “while in Mberengwa she said she had brought with her 350 tonnes of maize an amount of grain which can only be transported by 12 trucks with a tonnage of 30 tonnes each.

“She also added that she brought 130 tonnes of rice equal to four (4) trucks’ carriage, 8 000 litters of cooking oil 660 boxes of 2litre bottles; that is another truck. ”
The total number of trucks would then be 17 30 tonne trucks according to her speech but the number of trucks that were present at the rally was six (6). Many died rushing for this and the rural community also clapped their hands applauding something which was not even available,” they said.
What has furthermore been a cause for concern is the manner in which Mrs Mugabe has repeated the same method of disbursing the donations. The Crowd-Storming method is blamed for the systematic disaster. “If she had allowed post mortem work after each incident, coroners would have forwarded their professional input to prevent future incidents taking place”, analyst David Mumba said yesterday.
Contacted for comment, Presidential spokesman George Charamba maintained his refusal to speak saying the First Lady’s rallies are not government business and he only comments on state matters.
