Kwesesports – Highlanders FC successfully defended the ZNA Charity Shield after beating Harare City 4-2 on penalties, handing Dutchman Erol Akbay his first silverware five months after he joined the club.
Despite dominating the possession for the majority of the game, Moses Chunga’s charges failed to capitalise on that, only for their opponents to grab the win after a penalty shootout.
The match got off to a frantic start with Harare City searching for an early goal.
City enjoyed ball possession throughout the first half but they lacked the finishing touches.
The Sunshine Boys continued with their dominance when the second half got underway with goalkeeper Prosper Matutu forced to make some excellent saves to keep a clean sheet for Bosso.
The Bulawayo giants also contained the pressure by launching a few counter attacks but their opponents easily dealt them.
With the teams tied after 90 minutes, the game went to a penalty shootout.
Highlanders took first from the spot and they got the advantage when Ronald Chitiyo was denied by the keeper Prosper Matutu.
Peter Muduwa converted Tshilamoya’s fourth penalty before Matutu was again the hero of the day when he saved Munyaradzi Dironyenye’s spot kick, giving Highlanders a 4-2 win on penalties.
