Harare(ZimEye)The local watchdog here, the Harare Residents Trust, has made a blunt criticism of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai who recently blamed the city’s women for blocking the water piping system.
In a statement on their online portal, the HRT threw daggers at PM Tsvangirai saying he should stop making uninformed statements for matters of environmental polution.
The statement read in full:
“Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai should desist from making uninformed comments on the causes of litter in the communities by simply blaming residents for the increasing environmental pollution. The HRT expects the Prime Minister to focus his energies on re-aligning environmental management policies of local authorities and allocation of financial resources for refuse trucks, waste management and ending rampant corruption in Harare City Council. Residents are concerned with the failure of Harare Water and Waste Management departments to timeously respond to reports of burst sewer and water pipes. The provided hotlines are not helping residents to assist the council monitor service provision”

The statement of protest by the HRT comes after the PM last week issued out criticism for the city’s environmental polution as he co-blamed female residents for the problems. Speaking at the recent launch of the Zero Litter Campaign and Water Conservation Strategies held in Harare’s high-density suburb of Budiriro last week, Tsvangirai said his visit to Firle sewage works on the outskirts of Glen View last week had revealed to him that sand was the main material that clogged the works.
“How can we clog our own system?” he asked.
“Last week I was at the Firle sewage plant. Women, you are clogging the system with sand. There are babies and even blankets found in the sewage works. So I am asking women to do their work in a way that ensures our sytems are not clogged. Why use sand when there is Vim and Harpic (cleaning detergents)?” he said.
The PM also attacked industries which he said were dumping toxic waste into rivers, saying they were contaminating drinking water, a practice that resulted in more money being needed to treat the water.
“We must give local authorities the mandate to arrest and fine companies that dump toxic waste into our water system. We must also find the most effective way of treating our water. Building of new dams like Kunzvi and Tokwe-Mukorsi will go a long way in alleviating water shortages.” (ZIMBABWE, ZimEye)

  4. the Primeminister needs to be aware that so much sand comes from poor drainage systems within the city along all the roads that have open man-holes that lack lids and some have weeds growing inside. Some storm-water drainpipes that are overgrown are homes to street pipo among them children and mentally dysfuntional persons saka office yavo ndoisina munhu akangwarira bedzi asingatarise zvakatitenderedza wanikwe murume mukuru is vexed by simple issues, off course mvura ikawuya gumbeze rebenzi rinoyeredzwa ropedzisira raenda kumasewage.

  5. and this HRT, who are those people? It seems they always on the PMs tail.i appreciate the PMs overall efforts though, going all the way down, addressing the common people, getting in touch with reality, it keeps him well informed with the needs of the common name, uncle our dear old uncle BOB, so out of touch with the reality, fed with lies daily by those cronies whose main aim is to stay on the gravy train as long as possible

  6. Bla Mikidiot, Frank is right, in the same way you believe Robert Gay Mugay is beyond reproach!

  7. Comrade naked’s lone voice!! asi wakatorerwa mukadzi/murume here nema gotsha bheva tough luck mfowethu.Kodwa amacomments ako ayayangisa ndodha/mama tyayela phansi, ipepa leli ngelakho na? ngoba kukhanya nguwe ucomentayo first always.

  8. @Mukadota i think you are right there, just that the PM should keep in mind that these people are struggling, to use sand is because they cant afford vim, the primary challenge is finding the next meal

  9. Eat what nhai Brigadier….you can eat all you want in this world but if government and society does not have morality in it’s functions of governance and in the fabric of society then it will only transcend to degradation of those values. This is the kind of rot in the society we have witnessed buttress in every aspect the zimbabwean society due to corruption, greed and all other ills that have destroyed our moral fabric. I fully support the PM on this one and this is by no means an assertation that he is immune to criticism. When people become so careless and irresponsible, the state of the economy should not be a barometer to indulge in acts of unaccountability. Any system whether be it a social or structural if abused or misused will not serve its purpose it was intended for in the first place. The life cycle costs and social costs to present and future generations will be enormous, therefore we need leaders who will sensitise society of our obligations despite the extremities.

  10. The PM got it wrong here, people got to eat first then they can think of vim and stuff, be realistic Mr Tsvangirai

  11. Frank Tasarawo, are you saying Tsvangirai is immune to criticism in a democratic country simply because your dream says he will be the next president? Of cause he raised very important issues, but the Watchdog is simply encouraging him to deliver on his election campaign message. By virtue of all the municipals being run by the mdc, Tsvangirai becomes responsible for all the failure, corruption and mismanagement within those councils and HRT is just reminding him that.

  12. God is the creator of all men. He created them male & female is His very own image and was happy with it.
    God is saying:
    Rom 1:29-32
29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
That same God is sitting on His heavenly throne today and he is sovereign.
Ps 14:1 says that only a fool says in his heart there is no God.
    Let those with ears hear.

  13. At least there is someone among rat eaters who’s telling the truth.Swangilai you are 100% correct hygiene is a foreign thing kulabo pasi bakini, look what they have done to neighbouring countries they urinate, sleep, excrete n have sex everywhere, your kins have got a disgusting behaviour ama-sw-i-na nxa!!

  14. If sufficient water were being pumped by the municipality then the sewarage pipeline would never choke. The women who use sand as an abrasive would use other abrasives if their rulers made jobs and income more widely available. In this case ignorance is bliss.

  15. If you dont like the PM, just LEAVE Tsvangirai for us. He’s our President and he will be President of the country in the next 13 months. Watch and see
