Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Zanu PF Politburo member and Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Jonathan Moyo was humiliated by provincial members who walked out on him as he was addressing a party meeting.
The Zanu PF Provincial members accused him of denigrating war veterans. Moyo who is the ruling party’s secretary for Science and Technology, chaired a heated provincial meeting last Saturday in the ancient city. Disgruntled provincial members interjected as Moyo was addressing the meeting and accused the controversial Professor of being biased towards the G-40 faction, of which he is widely believed to be the chief architect.
The meeting which was attended by representatives of all the seven administrative districts ended abruptly as angry delegates walked out of the meeting in frustration. A Zanu PF provincial member said the situation exploded when Moyo declared deputy secretary for transport Daniel Shumba, a member of Grace Mugabe’s G-40 to do the introductions. Provincial party members then opposed the move arguing Gutu MP legislator, Lovemore Matuke said to be more senior than Shumba should do the introductions. Delegates then accused Moyo of attempting to impose the G-40 agenda on party members. “When it was time to introduce guests Moyo proposed that Daniel Shumba should do the introductions and salutations .The delegates refused to buy Moyo’s declaration.The provincial party members told Moyo that Matuke was the right person to do the introductions.As commotion ensued, angry delegates walked out of the meeting protesting at Moyo’s decision,” said the party official who declined to be named.
An official in Moyo’s office said the minister was not in a position to respond to party affairs.
