The trial of Dr Munyaradzi Kereke continued this Thursday at the Harare Magistrates Court with the guardian of the two complainants testifying.
The witness revealed the police were reluctant to investigate the matter to its finality.
One of the key witnesses in the trial of Dr Kereke, Mr Francis Maramwidze who fought to have the matter issued a certificate of private prosecution up to the Constitutional Court, alleges that officers at Borrowdale Police Station doctored statements by witnesses to weaken the matter.
Mr Maramwidze says some of the statements had different handwritings, an indication that they were more people who were doctoring statements.
He says he went to the Police General Headquarters Complaints Desk reporting about the conduct of the police officers close to the investigations of the matter.
Maramwidze says at one point, six police officers visited his residence seeking the signatures of the complainants to close the docket, but he refused to cooperate in such machinations.
The accused, Dr Kereke came to his house more than five times seeking the family to withdraw the charges, alleges the witness.
Dr Kereke’s defence lawyer Mr Erum Mutandiro in cross-examination argued that the witness was not telling the truth.
Meanwhile, the private prosecutor Mr Charles Hwarara has successfully applied to have the Prosecutor General ordered to release the original docket.
The private prosecutor has indicated he will call two witnesses employed by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to come and testify.-State Media
