Hon. Thokozani Khupe |I wish to congratulate Hillary Clinton, for making history as the first major party candidate for president of the United States of America. This milestone is very important not only for the USA but for women of the world in general given that the USA is a country whose influence goes far beyond their borders. What her nomination as a presidential candidate for the USA means is that the glass barrier has been broken in the political and any other imaginable arena of leadership. Women everywhere have been motivated to push themselves even harder in order to tap into their God given abilities for the benefit of their families and communities. It also means that the pursuit of democracy must be every woman’s creed as only through it can the woman’s place be found alongside her male counterpart. In Zimbabwe so much remains to be done to improve the lot of women, but as Hillary Clinton aptly puts it in her campaign, we are “stronger together” as women and as citizens.
Whilst I wish both candidates well in the presidential election, my best of luck and prayers go to Hillary Clinton as she steps up the plate to hit a homer for the empowerment of women, children, families, for a safe world, environment, for stronger economies that sustain the hands that are put to work, and against the marginalization of women as well as the personification of all vices through the face of women.
