By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|A daring Chiredzi man resisted arrest and fondled a female traffic police officer’s breasts before attempting to flee from the scene last week.
Raphael Machote (45) appeared before Chiredzi magistrate Tafadzwa Mhlanga facing charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer on duty according to section 176 of the Criminal Law Codification Act.
Machote who was driving a Nissan hardbody motor vehicle, was stopped by police officers manning a roadblock at the 99 km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda road. The incident happened around 8pm when Machote was stopped by the cops since his vehicle had only one head lamp.
He was asked to pay a spot fine and he declined, resulting in an altercation with a police officer identified as Constable Chitsuro. Machote suddenly charged towards the female cop who was standing at a distance and fondled her breasts before attempting to flee from the scene. He was arrested while attempting to flee.
Machote was sentenced to 120 days in prison .
The man’s motive in indecently assaulting the female police officer could not be established.
Magistrate Mhlanga condemned Machote’ s behaviour as barbaric and uncouth.
Meanwhile eyewitnesses at the incident told ZimEye.com outside the courtroom Machote had been asked to pay a kickback resulting in the heated argument.

  8. This is miscarriage of justice. Murume uyu akanyeperwa chaiko. Hurombo huroyi. Recently zvakanzi no spot fines so whats this rubbish we are hearing . Extoting cash from ppl and then accuse them when they refuse to join the corruption train . If he had good lawyers he was going to win this case with no costs . The two police personnels should have bn made to pay for all the costs . Zim justice is rotten
