An MDC member from West Sussex in the UK together with his wife are believed to have died in a suicide pact on Christmas Day, leaving behind two young children.
Jan and Julie Tshabalala from Billinghurst were found dead on Thursday morning at their home after celebrating an early Christmas the day before. The couple are said to have taken their children to a relative shortly after their meal before the fateful incident occurred.
A worried family member had gone to the couple’s home shortly after 9am on Friday and saw the bodies through a window before alerting police.
The police spokesman for West Sussex said that Emergency services were called to a house in Groomsland Drive, Billingshurst, just after 9am on Thursday after concerns for a couple there.
“A 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were sadly found dead in the property,”he added.
“Officers are working to establish the circumstances of the death but are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
As the house was sealed off while forensics officers carried out investigations, neighbours spoke of their shock at the tragedy.
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Post-mortems were due to be carried out yesterday to establish the cause of death.
The cops were still to confirm whether suicide notes had been left.
Neighbours across the board say that they seemed to be a nice, happy couple who kept to themselves but were always pleasant when spoken to.
There were rumours the couple had been in financial trouble, although friends dismissed the idea.
“I am in absolute shock and how tragic for the children. I have never heard of anything like this around here,” said one other neighbour who lived four houses from where the Tshabalala’s live.
The couple’s children thought to be between ages four and seven are said to suffer from disabilities. Their daughter is said to have Cerebral Palsy while their son has learning difficulties.

Apart from the author calling him an MDC-T member there is nowhere and nothing in this story linking Jan to that party. I totally agree with you, Why label someone like its a sin to be affiliated to a certain political Party. Whether he was an MDC guy or not,fact is we lost a brother, a friend, a father, as well a sister, and a mother. May their souls rest in peace
It’s simply a Zimbabwean and his wife who died. I don’t know where the MDC T label comes in.
