By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Zanu PF stalwart and well-known Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa sympathiser Addmore Hwarare last week threatened to kill a police inspector investigating a corruption case implicating him.
Hwarare who is also a war veteran is the former Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers Union(ZISMIWU) boss, was booted out of the union following a spate of corrupt activities. He is facing various charges of corruption and embezzlement of funds.
According to court records Hwarare arrived at the Chiredzi magistrate court while Inspector Henry Dowa of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was processing papers in the company of a female detective. He then allegedly threatened to kill the police officer soon after the cop has submitted the court papers.
Prosecutor Liberty Hove confirmed the incident and said Hwarare stormed the public prosecutor’s officer and threatened the police inspector with death.
“Inspector Dowa came to my officer in the company of a lady .They were seeking clearance to have Hwarare’s bank accounts frozen while his case involving corruption and abuse of funds was being investigated. I compiled the draft application and soon after completion Hwarare got into the office and threatened to kill the police officer,” said Hove.
Hwarare is now being charged with threatening to commit murder as defined in section 186(1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
Meanwhile sources in the ruling party claimed Hwarare’s political foes wanted to tarnish his image because of his allegiance to Mnangagwa.Some even said the case is being pursued to silence the outspoken Hwarare.
However political observers argue the controversial war veteran was caught offside when he threatened a police officer on duty .
