By Tinoonga Mawere, Masvingo| Senior Zanu PF provincial official and Masvingo West MP, Ezra Chadzamira last week fled from angry party supporters at Mashava after the mob accused him of rigging district elections .
Chadzamira who is regarded as one of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s key allies allegedly rigged the elections in favour of pro-Mnangagwa elements . The MP who has been at the centre of Zanu PF factional battles, has reportedly dumped his constituency to fight in Mnangagwa’s corner .While members of his constituency are facing starvation, Chadzamira is reportedly sponsoring factional wars in the province in a bid to strengthen the Mnangagwa camp.
According to reports From Mashava angry Grace Mugabe supporters blocked Chadzamira’s exit after the elections, demanding the nullification the polls .He was then whisked away by Masvingo Provincial Commissar Jeppy Jaboon, with the angry mob in pursuit .
“There was chaos in Mashava during the district polls when Chadzamira presided over the process .Chadzamira had to flee from the venue of the polls because the angry mob wanted to beat him up.The MP is sponsoring factional wars and he is very close to Mnangagwa so these guys are building a strong camp in Masvingo.
They are already strategising for Mnangagwa but it is not going to be easy although they virtually control the province ,”said a Zanu PF provincial official.
The Zanu PF intra-party violence has intensified days before the party’s annual conference scheduled for Victoria Falls . Although some provinces have endorsed President Robert Mugabe as the party’s presidential candidate for 2018 ,it is understood Masvingo Province fully backs the midlands godfather to replace the visibly tired Mugabe who nearly fell down again in India last month . Masvingo Province is also opposing Grace Mugabe’s presidential aspirations .
