National_in-the-news-NATIONAL-Local_stripPrime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has vowed to block President Robert Mugabe after the latter unilaterally imposed election dates for this years’ polls.
After invoking his presidential powers amid protest, Mugabe told Tsvangirai this morning (Thursday), that combined national elections are to be held on the 31st July without fail, and the nomination of candidates set to 28th June 2013.
Tsvangirai has however refused to accept Mugabe’s proclamation letter(below) as he said Mugabe has acted against the Global Political Agreement stipulations which say the president must consult with the prime minister.
“President Mugabe’s actions are a unilateral and flagrant breach of our Constitution and the GPA. I, as PM, cannot and will not accept this. Moreover, part 111 of the 6th schedule of our Constitution makes it clear that there shall be an intense 30-day voter registration exercise,” he said.
He added:
“As Morgan Tsvangirai, the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe and the President of the MDC, I will not accept a situation where Zimbabweans will yet again be railroaded and frog-marched to another illegitimate and violent election.”
Below was Robert Mugabe’s letter delivered to Tsvangirai’s office Thursday morning:
In my capacity as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, I hereby inform you that i have today issued a proclamation calling for the holding of Harmonised Elections, and fixing 28th June 2013 as the date for the nomination of aspiring candidates, and 31 July 2013 as the date for holding the polls.
This proclamation has been preceded by the enactment of the Electoral Amendments that were approved by cabinet on 11 June 2013.
Given the need to comply with the deadline for elections as imposed upon me by the constitutional judgement, it became expedient to await the passage through parliament of the Electoral Ammendment Bill to align the Electoral Law with the New Constitution. Accordingly I found it necessary to invoke the presidential powers (Temporary Measures) at Chapter 10.20 in order to comply with the order given by the Consitutional Court.
Yours Sincerely,
RG Mugabe

  1. The coffin dodger seems to have an affinity of having eggs on his face since he surrendered our sovereignty to Zooma and Co. Our so called President is indeed a dunderhead with many useless degrees, if he was trying to hoodwink us Zimbabweans and SADC using a stupid court ruling only to be slapped down to size is embarrassing.

  2. SADC has unequivocally demanded observation of the constitution. How can some one in their infinite wisdom, want to violate a constitution they have signed into law just two weeks ago, the ink is not even dry yet!! Those who advised Mugay on this issue should all hang their heads in shame, especially the barking dogs Bla Miki, Kurira, Chandodi, Samoradog, all of you have failed your “president”!! Chinjai maitiro, Zimbabwe haisi yenyu ndeyedu tese mabharanzi, you cannot and should nevern think you hold the destiny of this country in your hands. Zimbabwe is bigger, much bigger than Zanu PF!!

  3. Breaking news comrades and friends!!!!
Mugay has apparently been given a severe dressing down at the SADC summit on Zimbabwe today. He was left like a drenched chicken after hard-hitting speeches by both Dr Tsvangirai and Prof Ncube. Chinamagay has been tasked to go back to the const court and request a 14 day extension to the madness that Mugay had proclaimed just this Thursday. Not only that, security chiefs have been ordered to refrain from issuing political statements, and SADC will have a presence in Jomic and has demanded election observers to be sent as soon as possible.
All in all, it is shocking the kind of advisors Mugay has surrounded himself with, the Bla Dog and Chandog kind, they have led to a very public humiliation of his person and he now has to leave the summit with his tail firmly between his legs. Zanu dogs, your days of trampling over the nation just to satiate your power-hungry whims are OVER!!! Zola bhata dogs!!! Victory is at hand for the forces of democracy. progress, peace and prosperity!! Tsvangirai panyanga! Asijiki zvamuchose!

  6. Get away mani Wena Naked Isifebe, that’s why you will never get a US visa, stupid!

  7. We have endured for so long and I think this time is the right time to change the political climate. The PM should focus his energies on campaigning as opposed to wasting the valuable time pointing a finger. It is not about the date for the elections any more but more about winning the electorate hearts. So although it is unfortunate that the Election date was unilaterally determined, which I equate to the 1965 Rhodesian UDI, what matters now is to use the limited time left wisely, that is, intensify campaigning strategies. If by chance the date is moved forward, it will be an added advantage but for now just get ready. RGM is 89 and from close assessment he is finished and no sensible person can waste their votes in his favour anyway. Just make people ready and mobilise more people to register. No more return of the Z$trillion, fuel queues, cholera catastrophes, empty shelves in supermarkets, etc. Preach the gospel, don’t look back. Come on go and influence change. Vote! Vote! Vote!

  8. The zanu muppets think they are pulling a fast one with this deceitful move. Little do they know that ” The gods first make fools those whom they are about to destroy”.

  9. Mugabe misses a point here that the judgement by the constitutional court was meant to safeguard the integrity of parliament and to avoid using presidential decrees. But Mugabe in turn used the judgement to override parliament. We have a working parliament that would have debated on electoral laws. There is clearly no logic why he rushed. Are we heading for a one man election? We thought the GNU road map was meant to rationalize our elecoral system. The current action by Mugabe will surely short circuit the GNU road map.

  10. agara mogiza anohla kudliwa! Handei mberi nemaelections tikurire madetractors. Chero akazvongonyoka akadini mogizaa, he is nt the president. Vamugabe ndivo president & he has acted well within the constitutional bounds!

  11. It was all elaborately set up. Mawarire was apparently bankrolled by the CIO, and the majority constitutional court judges who presided over the matter are on ZPF payroll. Since when has a citizen compelled the courts to compel the president to do something? The real story is not even in the reforms, media or security, those are secondary issues. Voter’s roll ndiri riri kubikwa vanhuwee, Mudede is not sleeping and is working night shift like a wiitch to cook the numbers. There will be no violence this time, why rig openly? People, Mudede must account for each and every voter, I personally do not care for the reforms, all I’m concerned about is the voter’s roll and ballot boxes, ndipo pane nyaya ipapo varume!!

  12. Anochemeiko dofo iri? New contitution yaari kuquoter ina PM position here? If we are now rnning under thhe new constitution like he is alluding to, anotaura as who or what to be consulted? In the event Bob relents and gives in to the three weeks into August, what is it that he dreams he will be able to change which he failed to during the past 250 weeks he hasbeen in gvt? Dont waste our time,. Plz

  13. President Mugabe vari kuti 31 July ma elections.PM Tsvangirai vari kuti no hazviite coz handina kutanga ndasumwa nezve date iri.So zvichafamba sei manje?

  14. Makoroni, the constitution is not negotiable. Court rulings should be adhered to and the rule of law should always take charge in any democracy. We spend four years to come up with a constitution which you want to easily break so as to suit your western sponsors egos. The President is open to discussing anything as long as it is guided by the supreme law. The MDC T’s arguement is baseless, stupid and null and void. It lacks substance. The GPA was enacted so as to pave way for elections and nothing has changed on that. We do not hold elections to please the so called international community. Our elections should be the fulfilment of the desires of our people. Their democratic right to speak up their mind should not be challenged by a sellout. Zimbabwe is for us Zimbabweans.

  15. emergency powers won’t fund the election, wont earn us any respect from the international community, of which we are a member. The MDC-T and other parties, progressive parties I mean, should approach the president and talk to him man to man and get him to understand that Zimbabwe is made up of fifteen million people, that makes for a wide range of opinions and solutions to our problems. We can not rely on one old man, please. For once can sanity prevail in this country.

  16. The truth is both ZANU Pf and Mdc T are fully aware that they rig elections, Tendai Biti is lucky dont forget that they wanted Mukonoweshuro than him. Both Mdc and ZANU Pf have different factions, Mnanngagwa side Mujuru side, Tsvangirai side and Biti side both are heavily involved in corrupt activities,Chombo scenario and Makuvise scenario but when it comes to ideas ZANU of obviously outwits the latter and on Zato I mean umbavha Mdc outwits ZANU so you decide which political party to vote for?

  17. Bhora MuROOF panozomuka Tsvangihuku(mdc goalkeeper) anotozomutswa neNoise yeGOOOO BHORA!!!

  18. Tsvangihuku want to show his PLASTIC muscles.kwanz I Tsvangihuku as the PM and president of MDC. Copying the Presidential letter.4 sure Bla Miki BHORA MUROOF MENET.

  19. Surely, what kind of so called technocrats surrounds this tea boy to the extend of failing to explain to him what exactly is mean’t by Presidential powers (temporary measures)? When applying such powers, the President does not need to consult anyother person other than his advisors. This is in line with the constitution and yet the law doctor (korea) is trying to give a blind eye on this. BESIDES, President Mugabe rightfully bypassed this sellout given the fact that he has been campaigning against the holding of elections, giving flimsy excuses that could have seen him extend his stay at the Highlands mansion. Whatever the gay leader may now decide to do, elections are now on. BHORA PAHASHA APO!

  20. in politics sho me where elections were done with so called level playing field iko ku SA kwaunomhanyira the field was not level. did they run here. i hope its not the tax payer’s funds that paying for yr erands. we cant boy cot for ever mr boycot you panic too much mr pm the office u want requires stsbility, cool head and good judgment
