New Zimbabwe Leader Should Create Democracy, Says US Govt
The new Zimbabwean government’s leader and his government should facilitate democracy and civilian freedoms, the United States government has said.
In a statement the United States said onerous task of charting a way forward that will give the people of Zimbabwe the opportunity to express their most fundamental democratic right in a free and fair environment, a government statement read as it also revealed concerns on the legitimacy of the poll.

The statement read issued by the Secretary of State, John Kerry read in full:
Zimbabweans voted in their country’s first national elections this week since the violent and disputed polls in 2008. These elections were an opportunity for Zimbabwe to move forward on a democratic path and provide a foundation for growth and prosperity.
The people of Zimbabwe should be commended for rejecting violence and showing their commitment to the democratic process. But make no mistake: in light of substantial electoral irregularities reported by domestic and regional observers, the United States does not believe that the results announced today represent a credible expression of the will of the Zimbabwean people.
Though the United States was restricted from monitoring these elections, the balance of evidence indicates that today’s announcement was the culmination of a deeply flawed process. There were irregularities in the provision and composition of the voters roll. The parties had unequal access to state media. The security sector did not safeguard the electoral process on an even-handed basis. And the government failed to implement the political reforms mandated by Zimbabwe’s new constitution, the Global Political Agreement, and the region.
We urge the Southern African Development Community and the African Union to address their concerns with the electoral process, as well as those raised by domestic monitoring groups. The Government of Zimbabwe needs to chart a way forward that will give the people of Zimbabwe the opportunity to express their most fundamental democratic right in a free and fair environment. We further call on all parties to refrain from violence during this period.
The United States shares the same fundamental interests as the Zimbabwean people: a peaceful, democratic, prosperous Zimbabwe that reflects the will of its people and provides opportunities for them to flourish. For that to happen, the Government of Zimbabwe should heed the voices of its citizens and implement the democratic reforms mandated by the country’s new constitution.
Only then will Zimbabwe truly embark on a path towards democracy that reflects the aspirations of its people.

  1. The words from Mr Kerry are what we all expect in the next 5 years. The winners have been given, fairly or fraudulently, the mandate to undo the ommissions of the past 33 years. Mugabe can start with apologizing to the people of Matebeland and the Midlands for the senseless killings in his acceptance speech during the coming inauguration. If thess killings were a,moment of madness, people have given Zanu-PF the opportunity to belatedly apologize. In the twilight of Mugabe’s life, apologizing openly for the government sunctioned killings would help much in any future actions to address this national blight.
Our hope is that the next 5 years will be marked by sustainable opportunities flourishing for the most valunerable population groups in Zimbabwe.

  2. We share nothing in common with Mr Kerry, not peace, not democracy, not prosperity. No Sir, we don’t. The USA is a warmongering bully culpable across the world. Its leaders embark on expensive media events underpinned by big business interests to make a show of coming from the people when it all boils down to buying votes. Its citizens are the poorest in the world, with greatest debt per capita, and fed only by returns of a military machinery used to shock and awe global economic into sustaining the trillions of debt. No Sir, I would say keep your US while we keep our Zimbabwe, but sadly, the US is occupied land that should return to the long suffering indigenous people. We pray that God in his wisdom will soon rid us of this colossal albatross.

  3. When we preach the word of change we mean democracy, then this demonic thing of stealing votes put our beloved country on a standstill.Zimbabwe have been failed by sadc and other NGOS because they sideline with the dictactor,on my opinion i dont beleave zanu woo the elections ,where did they get 61percent after an applaud lose in 2008,these are manipulated results .ZEC should be investigated and a case of facto terror should be opened against ZEC.

  4. America is on of the so called WORST nations. As noted they have no right to atone democracy to Zimbabwe.

  5. Let there be peace in our Mother land.My wish and only wish::If only 5 years could turn to be 30 days.

  6. We hope so Mr Kerry that with the will of Zimbabweans must b done our democracy must b led
