A post-mortem conducted yesterday on Midzi’s body, which was recovered from his car at his farm in Beatrice on Tuesday, “reveale”d that he died of poisoning, the police said in a statement to the State Media.
The post-mortem was carried out by a team of three doctors. In the statement, police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said further samples were taken for toxicology tests.
“A post-mortem was conducted on Midzi’s body yesterday,” she said. “Three doctors concluded that the death was due to market pulmonary oedema due to poisoning and some further samples have been taken for toxicology and we are waiting for the results.”
Police recovered a one-litre bottle of poisonous methamidophos and sleeping tablets from Midzi’s vehicle, raising fears that he could have committed suicide.
