Linda Tsungirirai Masarira has been on our minds, as evidenced by the concern pouring in and the questions about her welfare. Cde Linda is currently in remand at Chikurubi Prison’s women section.

After her beating and detention in Mufakose she was arrested. Charges went from accusations of burning down vendor’s stalls to public violence. We expected her to be out soon, however she was denied bail. This stems from previous cases against her, which made the magistrate decide that she is not eligible for bail, the state considering her a flight risk.Considering Linda’s role as a leader of the citizens’ uprising, it is clear to us that she has no intention of going anywhere, but due to the State’s habit of fabricating accusations against us in our courts, we are not surprised. While the legal details are being worked on by human rights’ lawyers, Linda is in good spirits and health, being visited regularly. Her welfare is being attended to with the generous help of fellow Zimbabweans, for which we give thanks.
