Staff Reporter | Police officers recently transferred to Beitbridge are reportedly sleeping in the open as residents refuse to offer them rental accommodation, ZimEye.com can reveal.
About 500 police officers were transferred from the border town police station recently and new officers deployed from all around the country to take over the police station on an immediate basis without proper planning for the new deployments.
Accommodation in police camps is still occupied by families of transferred officers who are yet to make arrangements to move them due to financial constraints.
Sources close to the police, told ZimEye that there was mayhem at the station with some of the newcomers having to sleep in offices and corridors at that police station.
“They sleep in humiliating conditions like people in a waiting room,” said the sources.
Passages at Beitbridge Central Police Station have been turned into bedrooms while some senior officers sleep in offices.
According to sources, the Beitbridge residents have agreed not to offer the newly deployed officers accommodation in their houses amidst threats that anyone who admits a police officer will have their house burnt down.
“We have been warned by a circular word that no one should accommodate the new officers on the township with threats that if we do our houses will bed burnt down at night,” said one resident.
Media reports claim that last week the administration at Beitbridge police station sent an SOS to local community leaders appealing for 350 rooms to rent.
The appeal was also sent to churches asking those who may have rooms to let to contact the police administration.
ZimEye reported last week that the ZRP recently transferred its entire force of over 600 officers from Beitbridge in a major shake-up suspected to have been triggered by their alleged involvement in corrupt activities and failure to contain the July 1 riots involving cross-border traders.
It is understood police bosses were not amused when their intelligence failed to get wind of the looming demonstrations where cross-border traders torched a Zimra warehouse in protest against a ban on imports of basic goods from South Africa.

    WE ARE READY!!!
We listen and read with amusement at these small boys called Zanu Youths talking about defending a corrupt government by beating up a peaceful people.
Are they prepared to die RIGHT NOW for Mugabe, for Kasukuwere, for Jonathan Moyo, for Mnangagwa, for Mphoko?
BECAUSE WE ARE PREPARED RIGHT NOW TO DIE FOR THE PEOPLE!!!
We are not here to throw stones. We are not here to negotiate. We are not here to be bribed with bags of maize.
We have people in the ZDF sick and tired of poverty and misrule. Sick and tired of begging for their salaries. Sick and tired of witnessing police brutality on their own families.
Two of our ZDF members last Friday had members of their families beaten up and hospitalised by the police.
    We say NO MORE!!!
THIS WEDNESDAY/FRIDAY – MOTHERS AND CHILDREN STAY AT HOME – LOCK YOUR DOORS!!!!
    Watch and see what transpires.
If these so-called Zanu Youths dare beat up a peaceful people exercising their democratic right to demonstrate against a heartless and corrupt government we will be ready.
We will make Zimbabwe ungovernable, until the heartless regime is prepared to listen to the people.
We looked after all of you Zanu old men when you were fighting against white oppression. We fed you, you impregnated our sisters and left them to fend for themselves…..and yet here you are today living like kings forgetting how you got to where you are in the first place.
Joseph Chinotimba you say you want guns to defend Mugabe? Are you prepared to stand by those words when the time comes?
    It all ends NOW!!!

  5. Ndiko kugona uku. Zimbabwe’s equivalent of Nazi’s Brownshirts should not expect comfort ANYWHERE in this country. That is good so that they know if they mindlessly obey orders from those above forget that they live with the very people they harass, they had better pray that Mugabe, their Minister and Chihuri provides them with everything.
At the behests of ZANU PF the police have been at war against the very people they should be protecting. These acts of agency by residents are good because it shows the people that they have power. The rest of the country should follow Beitbridge residents’ lead. Hatichadi kunyengerera inda idzi dzinoruma vanatenzi vakadzitakura.

  6. Got you gestapors No accommodation to ZRP in beitbridge will burn your house. Let them sleep with their ugly uniform whilst their boss Hitler sleeps in a 5 star hotel with his sweet 16 grace. Suffer Police sufferer until you surrender to People Power. Amandla

  7. Yet Dzasukwa, Chihure and Charity Charamba are sleeping between their satin sheets and the enforcers are sleeping at “NRZ” waiting rooms.

  8. Indaa kunyore zvisiri izvo? Vanhu veku Beit Bridge DID NOT CAUSE mapurisa kuti arare in the open. Whoever transferred them before verifying availability yepekugara ndiye wakaita CAUSE mapurisa kuti arare in the open.
Kana munhu asingadi hake kugara ne roja unomanikidzwa here?
    Iya!!
Ah, musadaroba. Idi rakanaka. Ngazvshate muri paidi.

  9. Vele why do Zimbabweans allow these people in their townships? Its very easy to deal with them since you all know where they live. Why do they even give them lifts? One wonders!!
