A senior German government official is next week visiting the country and hold meetings with ZANU (PF) government which are aimed at improving the sour relations between Harare and Berlin.
According to the German Embassy in Harare, Friday, the German envoy who is the Director General for Sub-Saharan Africa and Sahel of the German Federal Foreign Office, Ambassador Georg Schmidt is visiting Harare from 23rd to 24th March.
“During his visit he will meet members of the Zimbabwean Government, Parliament and Judiciary as well as representatives of civil society institutions. Ambassador Schmidt will address the public forum at the end of the conference on Tuesday 24th March including some remarks on the current state and perspectives of bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Germany,” the Embassy said in a statement.
The Embassy also said Ambassador Schmidt’s visit  will coincide  with the conference “Assessing Progress on the Implementation of Zimbabwe’s New Constitution: National, Regional and Global Perspectives” which is organized by the Max-Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPFDPR), Germany, in collaboration with the Development and Rule of Law Programme (DROP) at the Faculty of Law, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and the Southern African Political Economy Series (SAPES) Trust, Harare.
Cooperation between Germany and Zimbabwe deteriorated in 2002, after the ZANU (PF) government had violently driven away former white commercial farmers from their farms.
Although President Robert Mugabe said ,that the move was meant to redress colonial land imbalances, it is the way the programme was conducted that received worldwide condemnation.

  3. Call it paranoia or what, I, for one, don’t trust these pale-skinned folks coz history teaches us that they cleverly speak with forked tongue [hypocrisy]!! Consider this: they say relations with Zim are improving but they maintain the murderous sanctions against Gushaz in place!!
From the tragic story of Libya, didn’t Gaddaffi warm up to these pink devils to the extent of sponsoring Sarkozy’s election campaigns, but they [with France in the lead] still killed him??!! Whatever seductive language they may use, let’s learn to sleep with one eye open!!
