Shock as Minister Mangoma is arrested

ZIMBABWE’s minister of energy Elton Mangoma has been arrested on charges that he allegedly insulted President Robert Mugabe at a rally more than seven months ago, in March.
Mangoma was whisked away while at work by several policemen at just after 3PM on Wednesday and he was immediately taken in for interrogation.
At the time of writing he was still in police custody and the duration he is to stay under the police was known.

An MDC-T employee who declined being named  told ZimEye the arrest was a shock but is not a surprise.
“This is certainly a shock but its not surprising considering this only 2 days after Minister Mangoma ordered that Chisumbanje villagers must be compensated for their losses.
ZANU PF are not happy with the strong stance that the honourable minister has stood for justice of the poor people,” he said.
It was also not clear (at the time of writing) which rally the police allege Mangoma uttered insults against the president.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights NGO have now appointed prominent lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa to represent the minister.
Mangoma’s popularity in Manicaland has risen sharply against President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF party in recent months after he led various successful community projects which benefit all political parties and these include mortuary, education and other key community accessories.
