Morgan Tsvangirai is like “Jesus Christ riding on a donkey to Jerusalem and the donkey must stay with its master” – these words were uttered by a forumist at the Mass Public Opinion discussion held on Friday as they referred to all who are advocating for the so called “renewal agenda.”
The meeting became thorny, and had to be called off when MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora said that Tendai Biti and Elton Mangoma are traitors. A report by the Daily News states that the meeting ended instead after spokesperson for the MDC faction led by Tendai Biti, Jacob Mafume had attacked Morgan Tsvangirai. Jacob Mafume spoke to ZimEye in an interview on Friday night answering to these allegations. Below was an excerpt of the interview:
Q: There have been reports that you had a forum meeting today which is claimed to have ended after you attacked (Morgan) Tsvangirai. I am trying to get facts on what really happened.
A: No no that’s not what happened. All of us had a presentation ready so we had Mwonzora to give a presentation. It was not an MDC meeting it was a Mass Public Opinion meeting where I gave a presentation on the history of MDC up to now and where it should be going. As Mwonzora presented, he then attacked Mangoma and Biti personally. In my response he was saying they are sellouts they have sold out, they are responsible for the failures of the inclusive government and they are corrupt. My questions were simply on relation to that, of for instance saying they are sellouts: Who got $1.5m when everyone had boycotted government? Who had built a house that is big and has more toilets than constituencies while it’s only for one person. Then someone has alluded to the suggestion that Tsvangirai is Jesus riding on donkey into Jerusalem, but the donkey is mistaken (sic), if it goes on its own, and so will not be accepted. I said you have been complaining that Mugabe is riding us like donkeys, does this guy believe that we are donkeys which we are supposed to take him to Jerusalem?
We as the donkeys we refuse to go to Jerusalem and he would have to walk on his own and we can not allow a situation where other people see themselves as riding and others are donkeys. When we started this party it was a union of democrats, no rider and the ridden. This was the context of what happened, they had a hired crowd to echo anyone else who spoke except Mwonzora and to try and drown everything, that’s when I insisted that if I am to remain in this meeting I should be allowed to finish my speech, if I am not allowed to do so I’m going to walkout of that meeting together with the people who came with me. That’s why the reporter said I stood my ground to finish my speech”.
Q: You said Mwonzora has attacked Biti and Mangoma that they are sellouts, was there anything that he stated in terms of an attack? ”
A:” Yes he said they were the ones who had negotiated in bad faith setting up people to fail. They had given wrong advice to Tsvangirai and also when they got in they have been unfaithful in the execution of their duties. So I pointed out that those two were the best performing ministers of the inclusive government combined. Mangoma did wonderful work in energy and eradicated the fuel queues. Minister of finance Tendai Biti stabilised the economy and gave meaningful wages to the people and basically kick started an economy that had shut down. I also said these people have tried to prove their ways but they have been weighed down by the unfocused performance of their principals in terms of exercising his powers.”

Zimbabwe politics between functions is now childish. Surely one national paper has sunk so low to write that Biti function has more Western ambassadors on their side since they were greeted and sat near them during the Masunda function. Some of us who knew Mafume from his University days can tell you is a certified failure.Nothing to talk home about.Its sad that real UZ leaders like Fortune Mguni(Daniel Molokeli) , Dewa Mavhinga and Dzingai Dzimano have not taken active olitics.With Dzimano, he was a man of action .Dewa was sober.Mafume was known for womanising students from Vic High School and Gokomere, promising to put them in orientation week committee thereby guaranteeing them campus residence.Its unfortunate some people listen to rubbish like Mafume.At least Job Sikhala was btter, when the going got tough he went straight to Chombo and demanded payouts within one hour.Chombo had to run around.So hatred doesnt uplift your profile Mafume.You were given a chance to represent Harare South and you lost.There was no Nikuv because you say its leadership which failed.

it boggles my mind that Mafume now calls Morgan a serial womaniser wen in actual fact it is he Mafume who as principal director in the PM’s office went on kunomitisa a lady aishanda muoffice make and then married another woman to make it 3 women whilst he was still in Tsvangirai’s office,if i’m lying can Mafume refute it. Mufume is not telling facts. He only speaks hatred. I have tried to come to terms to their reasons for split, I find only one: greedy. They have been promised money by the donors. We will see whether those donors will vote for them. They should have come to the people to ask them for solutions. I will never ever support a person who comes to power through coups. Biti can not be trusted. If he can sell out at MDC he can also sell all Zimbabweans to the West.
Jacob Mafume…a BIG lier…civil servants stood at $100.00 up until Tendai Biti finished his tenure of office….except guy like Cuthbert Dube I believe he raised the salaries of those guys…..not the rest of the population………

Jacob Mafume and Douglas Mwonzora were anywhere near the MDC at its formation. Jacob Mafume only comes to the MDC in 2005 towards the end. Unlike his colleagues at college who identified with the new formation he shied away completely perhaps preferring nightclubs where his demon for insatiable craving for sex could be exorcised. He only comes to identify with the MDC when he was invited by another dodgy character Jameson Timba when the party had split in 2005.
Jacob abused his office influence while working for USAID to leverage his entry into politics. For that reason he was pushed out. Those who dealt with him at USAID always referred to his character as someone who wanted to use the USAID as a personal leverage to launch himself into politics. He cannot therefore talk about the formation of the MDC when he was nowhere near it.
At the office of the Prime Minister Jacob spent his time on his habit chasing after young girls and having sex romps in the office. This is why he is now confused when he says Mangoma was one of the best performing ministers. When the daily news did a survey around the performance of ministers Mangoma was featuring at the bottom sharing places with Nicholas Goche. For the record the energy issue both fuel and electricity were stabilised during the tenure of Elias Mudzuri as minister. During that time Mangoma was in the ministry of planning where he was a disaster. At the ministry of planning Mangoma failed to come up with the medium term plan a task that took his successor Tapiwa Mashakada less than six months to accomplish. It was Elias Mudzuri who made changes to the ZESA board , got ZERA working again, reorganised fuel procurement etc. The prepaid energy meters were approved during the tenure of Muduri as well. Of course to put the record straight these ideas were already sitting in the ministry of energy even before Mudzuri came to it.
When Mudzuri was recalled and transferred ostensibly at the instigation of the MDC T leadership in 2011 it was all scandals again at the energy ministry of energy. Mangoma was spending his time getting involved in dodgy deals with companies like NORA in some fuel deals and at the negotiating table where again he produced nothing. Both in the ministry of planning and at the energy mangoma has nothing to his name.
As for Tendai Biti appearances can be deceiving. He has nothing that he delivered at the ministry of finance. He spent his time fighting Gono who had been made totally inconsequential in view of the multi currency system that changed the distributive role that was so critical for fueling the patronage system. No longer could tobacco, gold etc be sold through the reserve bank, monetary policy was made redundant etc. The RBZ was a white elephant even before Tendai Biti assumed the reigns at the ministry of finance. One would need to deliver a lecture in economics here which is besides the point. For the record the multicurrency system comes in January 2009 and Tendai Biti is only appointed Minister of finance end of February, 2009.
Instead Tendai Biti spent his time on twaddle, foreign trips and the negotiating team issues that must have blown his ego out of proportion. He shied away from introducing fundamental changes in the state procurement systems and closing tax loopholes. He failed to reign in the diamond and other revenues that Zpf later capitalised on to finance its election theft. Even the blotted civil service it was Tendai Biti who sustained it. Mugabe could travel again at will during Biti’s time. I remember in one of the years Mugabe was reported to have spent $54 million in travels financed by Tendai Biti. To all intents and purpose Biti has no achievements to talk about at the ministry of finance. What appears like successes were mere accidents of history that perhaps relates elsewhere.
So Mr. Mafume Sir do not insult our intelligence. Perhaps this is says a lot about how you spent your time at the office of the prime minister peeping under the skirts of young girls.
