By Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Embattled MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has called for an urgent audit of party structures in Masvingo Province in a bid to counter former vice president Joice Mujuru’s activities in the province.
Well placed sources told ZimEye.com yesterday Tsvangirai will personally come to Masvingo on Saturday to conduct a stuctures inspection at the provincial party office in Rhodhene Masvingo. It is understood Tsvangirai called for the urgent structures audit after some key members dumped the party to join Mujuru’s People First. Tsvangirai has also lined up five rallies in Masvingo Province and the sources say the former premier is desperate to dilute Mujuru’s growing influence in the province and across the nation.
MDC provincial spokesperson Dust Zivhave however said Tsvangirai’s visit was meant to familiariase with the party structures and it was procedural . “It is true President Tsvangirai is coming to Masvingo on Saturday to familiarise with the party structures during the provincial council meeting . He will also address at least five rallies in the province in February.
We will use the rallies to unveil our vision and roadmap to the 2018 elections. The rallies are scheduled for Gutu, Bikita, Chiredzi, Chivi and Masvingo(urban)respectively, “said Zivhave.
Political analysts here maintain Tsvangirai is afraid of Mujuru’s growing impact in the province and the MDC leader is keen to neutralise the former vice president’s influence. As the entire nation is kept guessing while anticipating change of leadership in 2018, it still remains to be seen whether the former premier will stand alone or he will rope in Mujuru in taking on veteran leader President Robert Mugabe who has ruled the country for the past 35 years.
