Ahead of the 36th SADC Summit, Kofi Annan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Graça Machel call on attending heads of state to support a successful and inclusive transition in Zimbabwe.

The Elders have called on the heads of state of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to consider how they can support a successful and inclusive transition in Zimbabwe that will return stability and growth to the country.Writing to SADC member states ahead of the regional group’s summit in Swaziland later this month, The Elders noted that Zimbabwe is “on the verge of an important transition” which, if handled well, could lead to a peaceful and democratic change of leadership and a renewed focus on social and economic development.
The letter was co-signed by Kofi Annan, Chair of The Elders, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former Chair, who is now an Honorary Elder, and Graça Machel, the co-founder of The Elders with her late husband, Nelson Mandela.
“We firmly believe that a successful transition is vital not only for Zimbabwe but also for the region […] we are also convinced that, if the transition process is to succeed, it must be inclusive, transparent and framed in the national interest,” the three Elders wrote. The Elders believe the upcoming summit is an important opportunity to reflect on how best SADC can help Zimbabwe manage the complex challenges ahead.

  1. Wena shona hater can u stand up n help those shona? Don’t just back u r like a coward do that backs infront of the door so that when enemies come closer u can run inside the house, take action urself make a difference, if u can’t then my advice is go for mental evaluation, u sick racist of 21St century, trying to promote racism in the country u r same as those who comit genocide, uyabulisa ikanda yazi,,?Asina s’kathi sabantu abafana nawe, uneducated poos,,

  2. What do you expect of anything run by Shonas. Sickening assholes, I must say. All they know is break things down. They have no history of creating anything new in this world. Even monkeys are better!!

  3. That iss exactly my point. Because they will never be a minority, so it goes without saying that nothing will ever come right in that God-forsaken-land!!

  4. Mr. Shona what will make Shonas to be in the minority in Zimbabwe? I like your first name Shona though. Your grandfather should be from Murombedzi!!!!!

  5. Mr. Shona what will make Shonas to be in the minority in Zimbabwe? I like your first name Shona though. Your grandfather should be from Murombedzi!!!!!

  6. Letting dull people like Gucci Grace get up so high on the political ladder is one big source of the problems we have. All they can think of is maintaining POWER. This woman doesn’t know nothing about running a country, but masses of people run ululating behind her. Disgusting!!! It scares me almost to death to see how she is “successfully” grabbing the presidency.
Then the morones calling themselves the women’s league – DANGEROUS that such people have a decisive voice in how the government is run!!! The list of things that need correction is endless. WE NEED CHANGE IN ZIMBABWE!!! THIS GOVERNMENT HAS LOST FOCUS!!!

  7. Well said PeterPan. The heroic fall of Zimbabwe is benefiting South Africa, the reason why there is no hurry to fix the rot. Apparently ZANU PF thugs do not see that no one supports them, except that they are providing opportunities for South Africans, Chinese and other 21st Century thugs, who prefer to ignore human rights abuses to amass wealth for their countries.

  8. SADC doesn’t really care. They are profiting anyway from the chaos causing brain drain in Zimbabwe. As everybody knows, Zimbabwe started quite well in the 80’s with a free education system. People got educated and the chaos started resulting in a massive brain drain. Go to SA, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia etc., it is Zimbabweans who are doing the work – semi-skilled and skilled!!! So why would they (SADC) want Zimbabweans to return home. If it was a concern for them, then they would have stopped, or at least tried to stop Mugabe a long time ago, latest 2008.

  9. Nothing will come out of it as long as Shonas are the majority in that country. Forget it; you call that a country – that is a permanent dustbin. Shonas are good at chaos, primitive tribalism and killing each other.
