By Sukoluhle Sibanda| President Robert Mugabe crashed his body onto the main podium at the African Union summit in Addis Ababa on Saturday. A uniformed bodyguard had to rush to the 92 year old’s support when his body suddenly fell forward in what could have caused great embarrassment.
He had at the time consumed over half a minute to force his body to the podium before the collapse occurred. A distance less than 4 metres took Mugabe nearly 60 seconds to accomplish walking. He did all this while attempting a level headed brave face. But while in the act Mugabe’s body failed the pull upon arriving at the podium.
Meanwhile a CIO agent has claimed there was an obstructing object in his way. Analysts however say were this ever true, questions would still arise on why it is that Mugabe is the only one who became victim among over 30 officials who walked past it with no difficulty.
