Government has admitted that it has no ideas of reviving the depressed economy and now pins its hopes on prayers for the recovery of the ailing industry and production sector.
The desperate appeal was on Monday made by Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Miriam Chikukwa while addressing members of various church denominations as well as Muslims in Harare.
Chikukwa appealed to the Church for more prayers so that the country’s industries re-open.
“If you look at the industries, I know a lot of people including Christians and Muslims have been saying industries have closed and when I look at them I say they will come again according to Ezekiel 37 which says ‘every bone in the valley will know where it is suppose to go,’; and I believe very well that after this prayer (6 February) when we come together we will have more development , economically , spiritually , socially and politically,” she said.
When they were campaigning prior to the 31 July 2013 elections Chikukwa’s Zanu PF party promised to create 2.2 million jobs for Zimbabweans.
But two and a half years after the polls the contrary has happened with more than 22,000 becoming jobless in less than 2 weeks alone.
Chikukwa could not end the meeting without praising her Boss President Robert Mugabe who she said was the only Zimbabwean leader.
“We know we have one President and one flag and we need to work together,” she said.
“We do not need to fight; we need to work together for the benefit of our nation”.
