Staff Reporter | Zanu PF leadership in Uzumba-Maramba-Pfungwe is victimizing locals who attended a meeting which was organized by the Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (RTUZ) at Mutawatawa business Centre.
RTUZ called for a meeting with locals including teachers on the 19 August, where they planned for the over 200 Km march from Mashonaland East province to Harare in protest of poor working conditions for teachers.
The protest march was aborted in Mrewa after the police arrested leaders of the protest who were walking from Uzumba to Harare.
Heal Zimbabwe trust, a peace promotion lobby NGO, this week reported that Zanu PF Uzumba ward 6 chairman, Godfrey Chikono was moving in the ward tracking down people who attended the protest planning meeting.
“During the exercise, Chikono is telling villagers that if they continue to attend meetings which are not sanctioned by the Zanu PF leadership, they run the risk of being evicted from the area,” said Heal Zimbabwe.
Heal Zimbabwe also said that Zanu PF officials in the same area had started threatening people to vote for them in the forth coming elections.
“ Zanu PF held a meeting on 21 August  in Hukuimwe village which was addressed by the party’s district  Chairman, Cleopas Kufuka where he  told villagers that all known opposition supporters in the area, will be “eliminated” before the 2018 elections.
“When asked by one villager what he meant, Kufuka only said that people should never forget the 2008 violence,” said Heal Zimbabwe.
