Harare(ZimEye)The state controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC )has approached the country’s judges pleading for the arrest of  millions of people resisting to pay radio and television licenses.
“We are broke because our source of funds comes from licenses and we are owed millions of dollars by viewers and listeners. We do not have a proper tracking mechanism to thousands of tickets we are issuing daily. The problem we are having is our police and judiciary are not cooperating with us,”a senior ZBC  Manager  who requested not to be named told ZimEye,
ZBC is demanding US$30 per year from motorists with radio receivers, US$50 for television and radio house hold owners.
The Official said during their engagement with the judiciary it emerged that it needs more than two months for it to clear millions of  ZBC radio and television license defaulters.
“They said they do not have the manpower to deal with our cases, and promised to accommodate us”, he said.Magistrate; Judge
The bankrupt state broadcaster in an effort to raise income from the resisting public, has dispatched officers at police roadblocks, car parks, to collect listeners and viewers licenses.
The ZBC official said the company needs the revenue to cover for ZANU (PF) propaganda programmes which ‘are not being paid for’. He said advertisers were shunning the broadcaster because of the programs.
“We cannot talk of adverts here as advertisers are no longer forthcoming. Flow of funds is deteriorating and we are failing to pay our workers in time – the reason why we are paying our workers in batches,” he added.
Zimbabweans have to date been reluctant to pay radio and television licences arguing that they have abandoned the state broadcaster due to propaganda transmitted on a daily basis.
The issue of the freedom of the airwaves has remained outstanding issue in the global political pact, as the ZANU (PF) side of the inclusive government refuses to release its control on ZBC. (ZIMBABWE, ZimEye)

  1. Long boring comments Cedric. Go back to school u tribalist. In Harare we now listen to the new Herald station at 89.7 inofaya. To Jumodaki go hang u bloody homosexual

  2. That useless uneducated shona idiot Bla Miki watches DSTV – the white owned South African station – just like all his other thieving shona despotic brothers! He never watches his shona brothers on TV because they embarrass him! Plus! All the top shona clowns at ZBC have looted and plundered the financial coffers like all the other once productive Government parastatals that they have looted and destroyed. Now the scum want to steal more in order to enrich themselves. What useless uneducated savages they are – a disgrace to our society! Slowly but surely they are driving every sector of the economy into the ground through their pillaging and thieving ways!!!! I have twenty radios, ten television sets and I don’t pay a single cent! Why? Because I don’t listen to or watch that zanu sh.t. Instead I listen to foreign radio stations and I am fortunate in having over 70 different foreign TV channels to watch on DSTV that offer educational programmes and honest NEWS reporting! Who in their right minds wants to watch or listen to uneducated shona scum spewing their ill-informed hatred and filth from mouths that resemble that of a hyena? Only the uneducated watch such trash!!!!

  3. uma beshota ngemali mabacele kahle hayi ukufosta abantu ukuba bakhokhele into engekho angeke impela kuyokhokha onina

  4. 5. …And for my grandmother in the rural areas, whose only means of edutainment is Radio Zimbabwe? Oh ZBC, you wanna have her pay $2.50 every month for airwaves? I will consider buying her a Chinese handset, complete with both TV and radio receptivity. What will be your next move? Some hard thinking needed, huh?

  6. @Jumpdaki. I agree with you. Reason why I think ZBC has to rethink this one. Otherwise, its creating “evaders” and you know that Zimbos are very smart and good at this game. Fact remains, people are watching ZBC. Whether it is an enjoyable or endurable broadcaster is open to heated debate, of course.

  7. Mamoyo-Thanks, so Mavambo ZBC is creating a nation of evaders. They charge too much and nobody is willing to pay so much for nothing.
Professor M he is ZPF so he says. My advice to you is dont worry he shall soon get used to you and guess what? He will like you. He was like that with some of us but he now likes us. However he is taking longer to like Cedric but he has started missing him. He was asking about him the other day see!

  8. paying for nothing is not a problem as long as ZBC charges $2 for TV and 0.50Cents for radio. not mazimari ese ayo

  9. Mavambo is it not unfairly expensive and stressful to watch. Can ZBC justify their charges to the good citizens?

  10. that is total rubbish how can we forced to pay for zanu pf propaganda? they show worthless and unbaked programes. Paying to see mahoso, chivaura, chimurenga choior, chinx and others, hazviiteba. Povo yaramba zvemadhisinyongolo.
Moreover haibati, i most totoionera padstv. ngavapiwe mari yavo nedstv because we subscribe

  11. hell no, i wont pay 4viewing cartoons & zanu pf adverts. Im nt mad lyk the entire cabinet. Rubbish

  12. Professor M, you are a fool, an idiot, a dirty smelling homosexual who is far from being sober and normal. If you have nothing to offer, just keep your dirty mdc shaped mouths shut and pay up you licence quitely, bastard.

  13. MKD, I don’t listen to ZBC radio or watch ZTV. They speak a language I don’t understand. Their English news is all about Zanu and I hate that bloody thing called zanu.

  14. Open your eyes.
Zanu pf wants to advertise on their telly so as to spread their lies. All that money will go to financing the zanu pf campaign advertisements for this coming election. Once people pay subscriptions, there will be lots of zanu pf Ads from our fake nigger Sir Robert Mugabe.

  15. Had it not been that our airwaves are monopolised, taxes must be paid.Give unto Caesar what belongs to him, and to God, his dues.Even here in Britain, you can be arrested, fined and or imprisoned for these civil offences, So lets not put evil behind this.

  16. Good citizens pay for services, true. ZBC has to think around this one very carefully. I think the first thing is to improve programming, charm the viewers/listeners and entice the advertisers. Nowhere in the world do broadcasters rely entirely on license fees. Fact remains that we all have to be good citizens – pay up what is due to ZBC. We can’t try to lie that we don’t tune into ZBC, even for the news bulletins?

  17. Vehicle radio licences must be scraped or be at $5.00 and household licences be $10.00 a year. Why do you want the same person to pay twice for the same service? You want us to pay for your service based on location? Why? Next thing you will force us to pay for cellphones that can tune to radio. Why want us to loose no,no, you better loose.

  18. Our knighted nigger Sir Robert is suffering from a Brian Degenerative Disorder. (FACT) In his medicine carbinet, there are lots of Psychotic drugs prescribed by his chinese Doctor.
One of the effects on of degenerative brain disorders is they cause the patient to become desperate when confrunted with a stressing situation. And in most cases, the patient becomes detached from reality.
Zimbabwe is run by a psychotic patient, and now the patient wants to spread his dulussions on Zanu Tv.

  19. i wl not pay for those poor services and irritating programmes.Besides there is poor netwk in Beatrice and inorder to view ztv u hav to subscribe for dstv.so y do those people wants to steal our money forcing us to pay twice.improve yo services, digitalise and see if listeners wl not pay.

  20. I FOR ONE WILL NOT ENTERTAIN those summons because in Mutare the network in certain areas of the city is zero so why ask us to pay. ECONET, TELECEL ALL know of the poor network in the same areas so why tie their pants in a knot when they cant resolve the situation dating from Ian Smith era.
