By Paul Nyathi |Reports from within the Nelson Chamisa led opposition MDC-T indicate that a conspiracy to make sure that he heavily loses this year’s presidential election is being schemed by some members of the party who are opposed to the young politician’s leadership, ZimEye can exclusively reveal.
Reliable sources within the party’s Bulawayo provincial structures revealed to ZimEye.com that private meetings are being held with some senior party officials scheming a huge election loss for Chamisa.
The sources indicated that the plan at hand is that all the members who have been against Chamisa urgently reconcile under his leadership and scheme his downfall from within the party.
The members are said to have agreed that falling out of the party will not help their cause as they will easily be outnumbered and so would be best to remain within the party structures and influence for a Chamisa loss.
Several members of the party especially from the Matabeleland region, led by insurgent Deputy President Thokozani Khuphe have been against the assumption of the MDC-T leadership by Chamisa following the death of former President Morgan Tsvangirai.
Of major rift with Chamisa, the members claim that Chamisa unconstitutionally elevated himself to the leadership of the party against Thokozani Khuphe. The members claim Khuphe was eliminated from the race on tribal and gender basis.
Some have been against the MDC-T going into the MDC Alliance coalition claiming that the alliance adds no value to the party.
Reports have since emerged from the party that want out senior members Core Vice President Elias Mudzuri, National Spokesperson Obert Gutu, National Chairman Lovemore Moyo and Khuphe are beginning to try and foster working relations with Chamisa.
Gutu who had already resigned from the party through an ambiguous social media message reversed his resignation claiming that he did not resign from the party but was misquoted.
Asked how the members were going to execute their “bhora musango” scheme, the members refused to divulge.
