In a shock revelation, the ZANU PF Manicaland Chairman revealed to the party that some of its supporters in rural Chipinge still didn’t know that former President Robert Mugabe is no longer in power.
Addressing the Zanu PF Manicaland Province Extra Ordinary Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Mutare recently, provincial chairman Mike Madiro said that youths in Mahenye in Chipinge District were shocked to hear that Robert Mugabe was no longer the president of Zimbabwe.
He told the party officials not to focus on areas where the party is popular but spread wings to remote areas to keep their support base informed.
Mahenye lies in the Lowveld adjacent to Gonarezhou National Park.
“We had meetings in Chipinge District and in some areas such as Mahenye our cadres did not even know that President Mugabe was no longer in office. They were shocked to hear the news that President Mugabe is no longer in power. Close to 600 youths were also shocked that the party has rebranded cars,” said Madiro.
Mugabe was removed from his position in a “smart” coup by the army in November last year. He was immediately replaced by President Emerson Mnangagwa.
Madiro told the party meeting that the party members were shocked to see party vehicles branded with Mnangagwa instead of Mugabe.
The chairman implored on the party to increase its information dissemination into the lower structures and remote areas of the country.
