By A Correspondent| A Makande bound rural bus belonging to Makuku Bus Company was involved in an accident on Wednesday afternoon after the driver lost control when the front tyre burst.
The bus was coming from Karoi and the accident occurred about 40 kilometres west of Karoi town.
According to eye-witnesses, the driver failed to control the bus following the bursting of the front tyre.
Sources told ZimEye.com that the bus driver was not over-speeding when the accident occurred. ‘We cannot say the driver was over-speeding but the truth of the matter is that the tyres are too old to be used for such a bad road that is not tarred,’ said a villager Charles Kadenga of Zvipani who was in a private car that helped those involved in the accident.
According to eye-witnesses at least five people were injured after the bus rolled and rested on its side following the tyre.
‘When the front tyre burst, the front exile was broken from its shaft and this resulted in the driver losing control,’ added another source, Daniel Bara of Magunje area.
Although there was no official comment from bus owner’s and police at the time of writing, sources in Karoi confirmed that the rural bound buses belonging to Makuku have been attended to at Chikangwe bus terminus.
‘We have seen these buses undergoing mechanical services at the terminus and its poor workmanship from the owners,’ said an airtime vendor Richard Kaunga in Karoi.
