Zimbabwe’s inflation rate increased slightly by 0,03 percentage points to 2,71% in April, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistic Agency (Zimstat).

Government apologists have already pointed out that the marginal escalation of inflation is insignificant.

On the other hand government critics believe the inflation rate could be higher than the projected figure.

In March 2018, Zimstat projected the rate of inflation was 2,68%.

“This means prices as measured by the all items CPI (Consumer Price Index) have increased by an average of 2,71 % between April 2017 and April 2018,” Zimstat said.

“The year-on-year inflation rate is determined by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.”
