President Emmerson Mnangagwa to announce election date

By Paul Nyathi|Highly reliable sources with the ruling ZANU PF have revealed that the party’s top leadership has agreed that elections will be held on Saturday the 28th of July 2018.

The sources told ZimEye.com in confidence that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be announcing the election date on the 1st of June calling on the nomination court to sit on the 14th of June 2018.

According to the sources President Mnangagwa has been waiting for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to conclude the voter registration and verification process and finalisation of the voters roll.

ZEC will conclude the voters roll inspection exercise on Tuesday.

The sources further claimed that Mnangagwa has also been waiting for the finalisation of the amendments to the electoral bill which will be signed into law this week for the law to be used in this year’s elections.

Zimbabwe last held elections on the 31st of July 2013 and were won by former President Robert Mugabe and his ZANU PF party. Mugabe was forced to resign from his position before completing his term by the military in a smart coup in November 2017.
