A technical fault on a plane that was supposed to fly Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has delayed his return after undergoing medical treatment in India, a senior government official has said.

Deputy Chief Secretary responsible for Presidential Communications, George Charamba said Chiwenga was now on his way and was fit.

He said his plane could not take off on Friday because of poor lighting.

“What I can say is he is fine now and when he touches down, expect a chubby Vice President,” Chiwenga said.

Charamba said Chiwenga was now on his way but could not give details on when he will touch down at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.

The Times of India reported on Friday that the aircraft which was supposed to transport Chiwenga and his delegation back home developed a snag at IGI Airport on Friday just before the plane was supposed to take off.

Quoting sources, the newspaper said the Boeing 737 (A6-RJX) taxied out at 7 pm for taking off.

However, soon afterwards it developed a snag and had to return to the terminal at 7:45 pm.

The vice president was in India for treatment for a yet undisclosed ailment
