By Rumbidzai Madhibha| Residents here have resolved to boycott buying ZESA tokens following increased load shedding by the power utility.

A 79 year old Kuwadzana woman Mbuya Retina Nyawo said it is pointless to waste her hard earned money on Zesa tokens anymore as her area has gone for more than three days now without electricity.

Speaking to ZimEye, Mbuya Nyawo from Kuwadzana 5 said:

“Zvichabatsirei mwanangu kutenga magetsi anodzoka pakati pehusiku? Ndiani anenge achiri akasvinura, meaning what is the use of purchasing Zesa tokens when the electricity is only available for a few hours in the middle of the night. Who among us will be awake at that hour in the dead of the night?”

Added another resident from Warren Park, Tryline Mujakachi:

“I do not have gas and i only have a few logs for firewood but we had bought electricity tokens enough to cover us for the whole month at our home. We are now helpless. We will never buy prepaid electricity again because it’s pointless.”

Shadreck Moyo from Glen View added:

“Imagine my situation where I dont have electricity but I already gave ZESA my money for this service through the prepaid system and they are sitting on it. It’s not new if I am going to hear that my $50 worth electricity has been converted to RTGs and its now equivalent to only $2 worth of energy. We are dealing with thieves and they will stop at nothing to steal from the poor while they award themselves hefty packages”.

Several citizens said they had lost hope with the situation in Zimbabwe since the poverty levels are worsening daily.

Mbare resident, 34 year old man, Baba J said:

“The situation is sad. I don’t know what crime we committed as Zimbabweans to deserve this. Life is expensive and ZESA woes are worsening our plight.”
