Former QPR forward Antonio German has been released from his latest club for allegedly being ‘too dark’.

German, 27, joined Malaysian club Selangor in January but left abruptly after just one month with the Super League outfit.

It was reported that the reason for his exit after just three games was down to being booed during matches and being labelled too dark to represent the club by fans on social media.

Selangor cofirmed there were ‘racist remarks’ made towards German and some fans were ‘blocked’ from their accounts for repeated offences – but German has since left the club.

The once promising prospect with QPR, who starred in the club’s academy alongside England star Raheem Sterling, told BBC Football about the shocking ordeal.

“When I realised the messages were about my skin colour, that was crazy – it was a massive shock,” German said. “I have played in a few countries but never experienced racism.

“The third game of the season, I was playing well but didn’t score and came off after 80 minutes. After the game I was told it was best to leave for my own protection. “I was thinking, ‘why am I getting punished for the behaviour of some of the fans?’ But I decided to leave.”
