Reported the Harare Residents Trust: Hundreds of residents in Tynwald South, Harare have fallen sick with suspected typhoid or cholera after allegedly drinking contaminated water from a community borehole.

This is happening at a time council nurses are claiming incapacitation due to extremely low salaries and conditions of services, since 4 November 2019.

Jane Jack, a member of the HRT suburban committee in the suburb, said the situation became known recently on 14 November 2019 after residents fell suddenly sick, experiencing vomiting and running stomachs, and they suspect that this was caused by contaminated water that they had fetched from one of their community boreholes.

Jack said one of the sick residents visited a private clinic for medical attention. She was told that they suspected food poisoning. The HRT is investigating the matter and will be providing updates.

Meanwhile the City Health Department has been alerted, and residents await their reaction to this emergency.
