According to former Zanu-PF spin doctor Professor Jonathan Moyo, the soldier has since been arrested and detained by the military police.

“A young presidential guard soldier emptied his magazine firing in the air at State House in Harare this morning. He was arrested as he was reloading,” said Prof Moyo.

The army helped Mnangagwa to the presidency with its former General and present Vice President Constantino Chiwenga leading a coup to dethrone former President Robert Mugabe.

There has been tensions between Mnangagwa and the army who have not been spared the effects of the downward spiraling economy.

Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri recently told Parliamentarians that the soldiers were now living in squalid conditions.
