Denise Nkurunziza, the wife to the late President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza has returned to the country’s capital Bujumbura.

According to a publication by BBC, Burundi’s first lady has returned to the East African country just hours after the death of her husband Nkurunziza was made public by the government spokesperson.

BBC reports that the First Lady landed at the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport in Bujumbura aboard a non-medicalised flight from Nairobi where she had been hospitalized at the Aga Khan hospital for almost two weeks.

“Denise Nkurunziza arrived on board a non-medicalised flight by the Kenyan private company Phoenix. It was a jet with the captain and the co-pilot only,” the BBC quotes local media in Bujumbura.

As reports BBC, an official in the president’s office has denied claims that Mrs. Nkurunziza contracted coronavirus.

Kenyan Ambassador to Burundi Ken Vitisia is said to be among those who received her at the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport.
