Dickson Mafios was released from prison in November last year following trumped up charges of inciting the January 2019 demonstrations. He served from February and released in November 2019 and went to briefly stay in South Africa.

The two stalwarts from Mashonaland Central are being charged have since been released, “We are happy to announce that Cde Dickson Mafios and Wonder Mashange have been released from police after questioning”, Jim Kunaka of the Tyson Wabantu Movement told this publication without giving further details on the arrest.

The National Patriotic Front National Spokesperson Jelous Mawarire posting on his twitter account said “The arrest of the 2 NPF officials from Mash Central where Kazembe hails from is clear testimony the Minister is using the police to fight political battles. We condemn abuse of power, the security agents & courts. This war the regime started will not end well. #TatambaZvakwana”

Both Mashange and Mafios participated in the 2018 Zimbabwe General elections as National Patriotic Front canditates for Rushinga and Mount Darwin North respectively. This follows their expulsion from the ruling ZANU PF in November 2017 after the coup which removed President Robert Mugabe.

Their arrest comes a day after Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe Kazembe announced that the police will do a crackdown on Saviour Kasukuwere, Job Sikhala, Apostle Talent Chiwenga and other forces deemed hostile to the ZANU PF administration. A serious campaign from Wabantu Movement is currently taking place in Zimbabwe and abroad for Saviour Kasukuwere the former ZANU PF commissar to lead Zimbabwe which is at its worst economic downfall.
