Farai Dziva|Government has reportedly fired hospital CEOs in a desperate attempt to bring sanity to the health sector.

However, health experts have warned that the move is unlikely to resolve the deepening crisis in the troubled sector.

The Health Services Board (HSB) has reportedly fired all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in government hospitals in a ‘restructuring exercise’.

HSB Board Chair Paulinos Sikhosana told Health Times that the restructuring was meant to bring sanity in all public health institutions.

Said Sikhosana:
There is a restructuring going to improve efficiency effectiveness and integrity, so that’s the only statement that I can tell you.

Zimbabwe’s public health system is in a bind, the health minister Obadiah Moyo was fired recently for allegedly awarding tenders for medicines and consumables worth US$60 million to a company which had failed due diligence.

Nurses have been on an indefinite strike demanding better remuneration while the number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 is increasing daily with cases nearing 1 000.
