By A Correspondent- The MDC Deputy Treasurer Charlton Hwende has dismissed reports alleging that the newly elected Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been recalled.

Earlier on, sources privy to the development alleged that Mafume was recalled by his party PDP.

It was further revealed that the new Harare Mayor was recalled by a faction of the PDP led by Lucia Matibenga.

Posting on his twitter, Hwende said:

The Mayor of @cohsunshinecity has not been recalled he is in his office performing his civic duties that he was elected to do by people in Harare.”

Matibenga broke ranks with the Tendai Biti-led faction in 2017 following differences over joining the MDC Alliance ahead of the 2018 polls. At the time, Matibenga was party chairperson.

In an interview with ZimEye, Mafume however professed ignorance on the matter and said he knew nothing about the recall.

Said Mafume:

“Ask her (Matibenga) please. I have no idea what you are talking about.”

Matibenga was not picking up calls at the time of publishing.
