By A Correspondent- A notorious criminal from Mutare will be spending the next 67 years behind bars for armed robbery.

The man who was sentenced to 63 years imprisonment this year, was also handed another four years for a robbery he committed in Rusape.

46-year-old Arnold Munyaradzi Mapani Buwu of Natview Park wasted no time and pleaded guilty to robbery when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Miss Ruth Moyo.

State prosecutor, Mr. Benoni Makuvire told the court that Munyaradzi Mapani Buwu and his friend Amos Nyaira(now late) robbed a shopkeeper at Nyabadza Business Centre and got away with items valued at $35 000.

“On June 1, 2020, at around 7.30 pm, Millicent Mbutsa locked her shop and secured everything. On June 2 around 1 am, Buwu and Nyaira went to the complainant’s shop armed with a hammer, a machete, and an iron bar. They broke the door to gain entrance,” he said.

Bawu and Nyaira are alleged to have terrorized Millicent Mbutsa and her husband demanding cash before they settled for groceries and other valuable items.

“The accused person threatened the complainant and her husband with death and demanded cash from them. They then robbed them of various groceries and property before going away. The complainant later made a police report,” said Mr Makuvire.

Police detectives from Mutare’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) apprehended Bawu on the 23rd of July. He was in the possession of Mbutsa’s cellphone.

Buwu led detectives and Mbutsa to the location of the stolen property leading to the recovery of hair clippers and a solar inverter worth around $5 270.

The hammer that was used during the robbery has also been recovered.
