By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said it has resumed electoral activities but at the same time maintaining a ban of by-elections.

In January, ZEC postponed voter registration and fieldwork citing COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
In a statement, ZEC chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said they have resumed all operations except the holding of by-elections.

“Given the danger still posed by the pandemic and the need to uphold some health provisions of Statutory Instrument 10 of 21 which are still in force, the conduct of by-elections remains suspended,” he said.

There are over 45 parliamentary seats and 80 council seats that recently fell vacant after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recalled lawmakers and councillors who contested the 2018 polls on the Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance ticket.
