Another Tragic Honda Fit Accident Claims Two Lives on Harare-Masvingo Highway
By Farai D Hove | ZimEye | Chaka Business Centre, Zimbabwe — A tragic accident involving a Honda Fit and a Ford Everest at Chaka Business Centre along the Harare-Masvingo highway has claimed the lives of a couple, leaving three others critically injured. The accident occurred on Saturday morning, adding to a series of fatal crashes on the highway in recent days.
Eyewitnesses reported that the collision happened when the driver of the Honda Fit allegedly failed to yield to the Ford Everest, resulting in a devastating head-on crash. The couple, who were traveling in the Honda Fit, reportedly died instantly, while the injured victims were swiftly transported to Mvuma Hospital for urgent medical care.
Midlands police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Francis Ngawagare, stated that an official report from the accident scene is still pending. “We are still gathering details from the scene,” he said, as investigations continue.
This accident comes just two days after another fatal collision in the same area involving a haulage truck and a UD truck, which claimed three lives on Thursday morning. This brings the total number of road fatalities on the Harare-Masvingo highway within 48 hours to five.
Despite its strong safety rating—4.5 out of 5.0, ranking it 4th out of 21 subcompact cars—the Honda Fit has been involved in multiple accidents in recent months, raising concerns about road safety on one of Zimbabwe’s busiest highways.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially in high-traffic areas like Chaka Business Centre, where recent accidents have tragically ended lives and left communities in mourning.
