In a recent development that has raised eyebrows, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, the interim Secretary General of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has reportedly been awarded a cash reward by the government.
Analysts suggest that this move is part of a broader strategy to undermine the opposition’s credibility and diminish the people’s struggle.
According to a source within ZANU PF, Tshabangu’s reward is seen as a tactic to co-opt and neutralize critical voices within the opposition.
The source revealed, “ZANU PF and CCC receive US$ 5 072 463.77,” indicating a substantial financial allocation that is part of a broader political finance distribution.
The allocation details were further clarified by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. Under the Political Party Finance Act, the Minister has distributed Zig$70,000,000 to political parties for the year 2024.
The breakdown is as follows: ZANU PF received Zig$47,883,500, while CCC was allocated Zig$22,116,500.
This financial disbursement is seen by some as a reward for Tshabangu’s actions, which are viewed as efforts to undermine the CCC’s position and the broader opposition movement.
Critics argue that such rewards are a means to co-opt dissent and shift the political dynamics in favor of the ruling party.
