Harare-based Dynamos FC’s continental dreams were shattered yesterday as they bowed out of the CAF Confederation Cup, losing 3-1 on penalties to Botswana’s Orapa United.
The two teams were deadlocked 1-1 on aggregate, following a 0-1 loss by Dynamos in the return leg, courtesy of an unfortunate Frank Makarati own goal.
With the score tied after 120 minutes, the match proceeded to penalties. Orapa United’s players held their nerve, converting three out of their spot-kicks, while Dynamos managed only one.
The defeat marked a bitter end to Dynamos’ continental campaign, which had promised so much. Despite dominating possession and creating scoring opportunities, the Zimbabwean giants were unable to capitalize.
Orapa United, on the other hand, celebrated their historic victory, securing a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
