By Crime and Courts Reporter—A devastating accident claimed the lives of five girls from the same extended family in Bindura over the weekend after they were struck by a vehicle that veered off the road.
The tragic incident, which has left parents and relatives in shock, occurred at the Bindura Rural District Farm compound.
One girl survived but sustained serious injuries and is currently in Bindura Hospital.
“My daughter died in that accident. I don’t even know how to feel or what to do,” said one grieving mother. Another added, “My child died along with her nieces. It’s too painful.”
Eyewitness Mikirina Julius recounted the moment of horror: “When I crossed the road, I saw the kids. Suddenly, I heard the screeching of the car. It had overturned. I rushed to the scene and started crying. It wasn’t until later that I realized the children who died were my sisters.”
Mrs. Llydia Hlabati, Bindura’s Assistant District Development Coordinator, confirmed that the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) is organizing assistance for the bereaved family.
“We are deeply touched by this tragedy,” she said. “These girls were all of similar age, living under the same roof at their uncle’s home. The government is being urged to help with burial arrangements.”
Four of the girls, aged 13 and 14, died at the scene, while the fifth succumbed to her injuries at Bindura Hospital. The sixth girl, who suffered a fractured leg and serious head injuries, remains hospitalized.
The community remains shaken as they grapple with the unimaginable loss.
